Hi, I’m HEATHER.

I am so honored that you are here.

Before I tell you how I got into this specialized work, here is a little about me: I am a musician, photographer, and nurse. I was born and raised in Southern California and my first loves were the ocean and music - I even went to a conservatory straight out of high school! I love dogs, road trips and exploring new places. Fun fact: I used to live on a 26’ sailboat! Ahh, the good ol’ days.

I consider myself a “late bloomer” in life given that it took me quite a while to decide on a career. After a few years in veterinary medicine, I decided to become a nurse. I have a passion for heart-centered service, and have spent over a decade working as a nurse in various units: from the Emergency Room to hospice and a few places in between. While I treasure the time I have spent at the bedside, I see a greater need to tend to the soul and to support individuals through some of life’s difficult challenges.

Death and grief have been teachers of mine since I was very young. I have had the great privilege of walking with many individuals to their death and what I have learned is this: our culture is not prepared, or even equipped, to talk about death or grief in a way that allows the sacredness and beauty of each process to unfold in a good way. Quite frankly, our culture is afraid of death - this leads to many lost opportunities for planning, healing, and connection with ourselves and our loved ones.

My own experiences within my family, my career, and my spiritual path, have lead me to create this space - Sweet Winds. I have been told by my teachers that I bring a strong and grounded presence within sacred containers. Through the offerings I hold here - grief support, end-of-life planning, and death doula services to name a few - I shift my work from Western healthcare, to spiritually secular caretaking with the desire to bring comfort, joy, peace, hope, and beauty to whatever process has lead you to this site.

My long term goal is to have a retreat center that is focused on serving individuals and families who are navigating terminal medical diagnoses - a safe place to come and take a deep breath and reset before diving into treatment plans.

Again, I am so honored that you are here and I truly look forward to getting to know you and supporting you on your journey.

All my love,

Heather
